An international team of 10 climbers, led by renowned mountaineer and former British special forces soldier Nirmal "Nims" Purja, is feared missing after an avalanche struck one of the world's highest and most challenging mountains.The avalanche hit Pakistan's Broad Peak around midday local time yesterday - 8,051 metres (26,414 feet) above sea level in the Karakoram mountain range.According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the expedition lost all communication several hours after the incident, prompting an urgent search and rescue operation.Mr Purja is widely recognised as one of the world's leading high-altitude climbers, having also served as a British Marine and special forces soldier.
