A 45-year-old motorist who had accumulated 59 penalty points on his driving licence has admitted to seven separate offences at Lincoln Magistrates Court.

Iain Ashmore, of Fuchsia Way, entered guilty pleas last month to three charges of getting behind the wheel while already banned from driving, three counts of operating a vehicle without valid insurance, and a single offence of using a mobile phone at the wheel.The number of points on his licence, nearly five times the 12-point threshold that would ordinarily result in a ban, has drawn widespread attention to the case and raised serious questions about how he was permitted to continue driving at all.

Police officers spotted Mr Ashmore driving the same white Ford Transit Connect on three separate occasions close to his home address over a period of less than two months.The first incident took place on May 30, followed by a second on June 23, and a third on July 23, just one day before he appeared in court to face the charges.
