A major new international research initiative aims to shed fresh light on the origins of the Dead Sea Scrolls, using innovative AI tools to uncover secrets hidden for nearly 2,000 years.The ancient manuscripts include biblical texts and ancient documents dating from the third century BC to the first century CE.Discovered in caves near Qumran by the Dead Sea between 1946 and 1956, they have served as vital historical artifacts for understanding early Judaism and the origins of Christianity.The new project, led by Prof Mladen Popović from the University of Groningen and undertaken jointly with the Israel Antiquities Authority, has secured a prestigious European Research Council grant worth 2.5 million.
